Sawasdee! Welcome to Thailand Musings!

Thailand Musings I first went to Thailand in 1997 and immediately fell in love with the country. Thailand at that time to me was mysterious and exotic, full of potentials and pitfalls. Fast forward to 2010 and here I am after 13 years and many trips to the LOS sharing, with the help of my Thai wife Golf, my experiences and knowledge with you here at Thailand Musings. Thailand may have lost some mystery for me, but it is still exotic and wonderful and I will always remember that first feeling when I stepped out into the Bangkok smog for the first time. I have yet to learn everything about Thailand and thankfully for all of us Golf is here to correct me when I err.

Thailand Musings 100th Post

Here it is! The 100th post at Thailand Musings! I am very excited and to commemorate the 100th post I have (finally) updated the “About Golf and Steve” page. Golf is also working on her contribution to that page.

Thank you to my older readers and welcome to the new readers. I hope to get to know you much better over the coming year.

It’s somehow right that the hundredth post comes at the beginning of a new year. I am seeing the potential here to help many and to share my thoughts and stories as well as the thoughts and stories of others. I’m very excited for the upcoming new year and expect that it will hold good things for us all.

To all of you I want to wish a happy and prosperous 2008!

    Hi Steve:

I have read many of your articles and blog replies, and have found them
very interesting, primarily because I have traveled to Bangkok on two
occasions and fell in love with the Thai people, their politeness, the
warm weather, and an economy that is agreeable with my budget. I was
amazed at the beauty of the Thai women, therefore, because my own
marriage is going nowhere, I feel that it is time to change course and to
seek a Thai wife. I am retired from the United States Air Force, hold
a New York State Teaching License, obtained my Master’s Degree in
Education, and authorized to teach grades 7-12. I want to retire in
Bangkok, but I would also like to continue teaching History at the High
school level, but I do not know where to search because I currently reside
in Germany with my wife. I have perused the entire collection offered on
Thailovelinks, and found a few young ladies that I would like to
make their acquaintance. With both of my retirement incomes, I earn
around 99,000 Baht, but I would prefer to supplement my income with
a teaching position, therefore, if you have any suggestions of where to
commence my search, I assure you that I am a avid listener. I am an
    American citizen.

    Thank you.

    Sincerely,

Dennis P. Habern, Msgt, USAF, Retired

    Dennis,

Thank you for your kind comments. With your qualifications you shouldn’t have a problem finding work as a teacher at an international school in Bangkok. Start with this list http://www.thailandmusings.com/thailand-international-school/

Unlike the Thai schools and language institutes many of the international schools recruit internationally so email the ones you are interested in and start setting up interviews. You may find it slow going at first as November isn’t the greatest time to conduct a job search as a teacher, but keep at it. Most of the schools will be hiring actively between February and May for next school year (September 2010).

I must say I am a bit jealous and wish I had your credentials. If that was the case I would already be in Thailand as the international schools do pay quite well. You could very well do better than your retirement income :)

Good luck on your search and I hope to see you here again.

    –Steve
