Thailand Musings I first went to Thailand in 1997 and immediately fell in love with the country. Thailand at that time to me was mysterious and exotic, full of potentials and pitfalls. Fast forward to 2010 and here I am after 13 years and many trips to the LOS sharing, with the help of my beautiful wife Golf, my experiences and knowledge with you here at Thailand Musings. Thailand may have lost some mystery for me, but it is still exotic and wonderful and I will always remember that first feeling when I stepped out into the Bangkok smog for the first time. I have yet to learn everything about Thailand and thankfully for all of us Golf is here to correct me when I err.

Retirement in Thailand

I know that it’s been quite awhile since I posted here and I’d like to thank you all for being patient with me.  I’ve been quite busy with other projects and mostly with taking Golf around to see different parts of the US, getting her a driver’s license and car and getting her settled in a new job here.

Now that things are settled down a bit I will be posting more frequently, I hope you continue to stick around.

This week (and possibly next) will be mostly devoted to answering the following question posted to What Do You Want To Know About Thailand

I found your web site and I’m happy that someone feels that they can answer my questions. I’ve visited Thailand twice. I would like to investigate either retiring to Thailand or having a second home. If you can could you please afford any and all information regarding this possible scenarios, I would be most appreciative.

Well Gary it’s a pretty broad question and I’ll do my best to address it.  If any of my readers have something to add please comment freely.  The more comments the better.  I think it will both help answer Gary’s question and probably bring up some additional questions he hasn’t even thought of yet.

    Welcome back! I thought you’d given up blogging!

    Such a minefield of a question. I have two specifics that I would like to know about. As a farrang can I buy a property? I don’t think I can outright, but have heard about schemes where a lawyer buys 51% and holds it in trust for you. With you owning the other 49%.

    How do I stay in the country? Tourist visas won’t let me escape the cold winter months in Thailand.

    Nope, I haven’t given up blogging at all, just a bit busy here.

    I agree that it is a minefield and should generate quite a bit of discussion as it is a huge topic. Much more to come soon.

    Oh, and welcome back to England to you. Hope your stay in NYC was great, seems that way from what I’ve read. And glad you enjoyed Lombardi’s. Yes, they are more commercialized since adding the new section, but the pizza is just as delicious as ever.
