Some of you have probably visited Nana Plaza in Bangkok or have at least read my post regarding the history and future of Nana Plaza. Well in that post I told you about the declining business in Nana Plaza last year and continuing into this year. It seems that the major owners in Nana Plaza have decided to protect themselves by diversifying.

Looks like Nana will be spreading out and opening a new location in Phuket Thailand. They are calling it Nana Plaza Patong and as you may have guessed it will be located in the heart of the Patong Beach nightlife area.

The owners of this new, fully covered entertainment complex have secured a government registered lease in this newly sanctioned entertainment zone in Patong. As you can see from the map below the Nana Plaza area is pretty small compared to the entire entertainment zone, so I wonder what else will be going there – casino’s anyone?

Phuket and Patong specifically is the logical place for an entertainment complex of this nature and it makes me wonder what it will do for tourism in Phuket. Certainly there will be a large number of tourists coming in that may never have made it to Phuket without this incentive. And if Pattaya is any indication not all of the new comers will be of the best variety. Will this drive the family vacationers to other areas of Phuket?

It does look like this is being planned out and will be a serious investment for some. If you’re interested in owning a bar in Phuket this may be a good opportunity to invest, however remember this is Thailand so don’t put anything in that you’re not willing to lose.

The group running the entertainment complex promises help for everything from the lease process through day to day operations to marketing for the new Nana Plaza Patong. They also claim to be planning a massive marketing campaign worldwide.

You will benefit from massive marketing of the plaza all over the world via the internet and a huge presence all over the island with billboards, T-shirts, baseball caps, a radio show and much more.

There is no indication when this will be opening, but I’ll be keeping my ears open. For those of you that love the nightlife this should be a great place to vacation in Thailand and for those of you that just like the occasional “unique” experience I think it’s gonna be much better than the current offerings. Time will tell, but I for one will be interested in seeing Nana Plaza Patong once it’s up and running.

Considering the current nightlife situation in Thailand do you think this is a good idea? Will an entertainment complex like this make Phuket a more attractive or less attractive destination?

OMG…it’s the most horrible and sad news for me about the accident in Thailand since Tsunami happened in December, 2004. Especially since it happened in the traveling season which has just started now…

I remember when the Tsunami happened on that time I started to work at BNH Hospital not even one month yet. And on that day my schedule for work was from 8 o’clock till 4 o’clock in the afternoon but I have to stay until midnight because emergency cases from south of Thailand were referred to some hospitals in Bangkok including where I worked because not enough medical care, support, doctors, nurses and also some of them have to have a big surgery in the proficient hospital.

Sine then until now I still remember about how saddened I was because of the circumstances in front of me never fade away. Some of them lost their child or the child can’t find their mom and dad. How painful for those people either from the cut and wound or inside their mind that no one can reach. Especially the latter painfulness have to take so much time and who will know how long it will take to accept that they’re departed.

I feel really sorry for all families, friends, husband, wife, father, mother or whoever lose your loved one from this Airplane crash. Even some of them are survivors, but might take a long time to recover from the wound and especially their mind to be better as before. And who will know how long it will take? One month, one year or even ten years from now…but for somebody can stay last long forever…

No one wants the accident like this happen and also no one can prevent against the fortune. But so many things that we can do for protect are whatever you want to do please establish yourself and be remain in carefully, build the goodness, love and be in unity and then the society and everything will be better.

The plane which was being operated by One-Two-Go Airlines, owned by Orient Thai Airways, apparently skidded when it hit the runway. It then split in two and the tail section remained on the runway while the front of the plane slid into the mountains surrounding the airport where it then burst into flames.

In addition to those killed it is estimated that 42 people were hospitalized. 14 people are still unaccounted for.

Eight Britons, eight Thais, five Germans and two Australians were among 42 known survivors, hospital workers said. Over half of the passengers were Europeans on holiday according to the flight manifest.

I am grieving for this terrible tragedy on Phuket, which was also devastated by the tsunami in December of 2004.

Phuket was the site of the massive and tragic tsunami in December of 2004. The earthquake that generated that tsunami was a 9.2 on the richter scale and was located in the same region as this one. We can only hope and pray that this earthquake will not generate a similar disaster.

There is no additional information at this time, but I will be keeping my eye on developments and will report anything I find out.

If you’re like me you think of sand, surf, sunshine and possibly sex when you hear or read Phuket, but as the article I read pointed out Phuket has much more to offer. The natural beauty of this island still sparkles once you get outside the heavily touristed and commercialized areas such as Phuket Town and Patong Beach. Specifically, this article talked about Khao Phra Thaeo which is a wildlife sanctuary in the northeast of Phuket.

Khao Phra Thaeo is said to take up 22 square kilometers and contains the highest peak on Phuket at 384 meters above sea level. At one time the wildlife of Khao Phra Thaeo was severly depleted, but it has been on an upswing since 1969 when the area was designated as a wildlife preserve. It is now home to wild boar, pangolin, civet, leopard cat, gibbon and birds such as fairy bluebird, blue-winged pitta and oriental white-eye. Most important is the rehabilitation facility for gibbons located here which tracks down gibbons that are in captivity, rescues them and then prepares them to be released back into the wild.

Since the facility was established in 1992 they have released around 60 gibbons back into the wild. Prior to that gibbons were almost completely gone from the forest here due to their capture to be put on display, mostly in pubs where they would be taught to smoke, drink and otherwise entertain the pubsters.

If you go to visit Khao Phra Thaeo you can help the gibbons through donations, by adopting a gibbon or by buying some of the products on sale such as t-shirts and sketches. I think next time I’m back on Phuket I’ll be adopting a gibbon and I’ll call him George They really are very cute little critters.

Near by the gibbon facility you’ll find Bang Pae Waterfall which offers a really nice chance to cool off in it’s pools. The waterfall itself has water year round so you won’t find it dry like other waterfalls around Thailand. Bang Pae Waterfall is around 36 feet (12 meters) high and presents quite a sight not to be missed.

This is just one small area of a wonderful island paradise called Phuket. Next time you’re there take some time away from the beaches, nightlife and clubs and get back to the more natural side of Phuket. If anyone else knows about good places to visit on Phuket I’d love to hear about them.
