Sawasdee! Welcome to Thailand Musings!

Thailand Musings I first went to Thailand in 1997 and immediately fell in love with the country. Thailand at that time to me was mysterious and exotic, full of potentials and pitfalls. Fast forward to 2010 and here I am after 13 years and many trips to the LOS sharing, with the help of my Thai wife Golf, my experiences and knowledge with you here at Thailand Musings. Thailand may have lost some mystery for me, but it is still exotic and wonderful and I will always remember that first feeling when I stepped out into the Bangkok smog for the first time. I have yet to learn everything about Thailand and thankfully for all of us Golf is here to correct me when I err.

10 Things I Miss About Thailand

On this cold and snowy winter day here in the U.S. I thought I would share with you 10 things I miss about Thailand. Typically a few of these things will enter my head at any time, but when the weather is like this they seem to be a constant in my thoughts. This list is by no means comprehensive and I’d love to hear about the things all of you miss from Thailand.

1. Obviously the heat and humidity. Call me crazy, but I love it
2. Being able to get a great cheap meal from a street vendor within minutes no matter where I am
3. Thai women wai’ing. Just something so sexy about them when they do that.
4. The crazy cabs that have that kinda incense smell and the white dots all over the ceilings.
5. The beaches and crystal clear water.
6. Thai smiles. They don’t call it the Land of Smiles for nothing.
7. Outdoor beer bars.
8. Black Canyon coffee and Roti Boy
9. Songkran Festival. I know it’s just once a year, but it is the best holiday celebration I’ve ever experienced anywhere.
10. Bargaining when I buy something.

So, those are 10 things I miss right now from Thailand. What about all of you, what do you miss from Thailand? Or if you’re living in Thailand what do you miss from your home countries? Please don’t tell me snow :)

I just returned from Thailand and I am missing it already.
I joined in the Songkran festivities and it was fun. I was drenched all over and never regretted it. I sprayed water at people and was sprayed at and no one seemed to mind.

Songkran is by far the best time to visit Thailand in my opinion. Glad you had such a great trip and hopefully you’ll get to go back many more times.

I know alot of expats living in Bangkok that complain about the Songkran Festival but personally i love it. 3 day water fight and fun meeting new people sounds good to me!
